Bladder Inflammation
Bladder inflammation, or cystitis, is when the bladder becomes inflamed and irritated. A bacterial infection can cause cystitis or be non-infectious, resulting from irritation or damage to the bladder lining.
Symptoms of bladder inflammation may include:
a frequent and urgent need to urinate
burning or pain during urination
lower abdominal pain or pressure
cloudy or strong-smelling urine
blood in the urine
Bacterial cystitis is typically treated with antibiotics, while non-infectious cystitis may require different treatments depending on the cause. Treatment options may include pain medication, anti-inflammatory drugs, or medications to help relax the bladder muscles.
In addition to medication, lifestyle changes may help alleviate bladder inflammation symptoms. Drinking plenty of water and avoiding beverages that can irritate the bladder, such as alcohol and caffeine, can help to reduce symptoms. Applying heat to the lower abdomen or warm baths may also help relieve discomfort.
Untreated bladder inflammation can lead to complications, such as chronic bladder problems, kidney damage, and an increased risk of recurrent urinary tract infections. It is essential to seek medical attention if you experience symptoms of bladder inflammation, especially if they are accompanied by fever, back pain, or nausea and vomiting, as these may be signs of a more severe condition
