Heat Exhaustion
Heat exhaustion is a condition that occurs when the body overheats due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures, often in combination with dehydration. It is a milder form of heat-related illness than heat stroke, but it is still a severe condition that requires prompt attention. The symptoms of heat exhaustion include:
Heavy sweating
Weakness or fatigue
Dizziness or fainting
Muscle cramps
Cool, pale, clammy skin
Dark urine
If you are experiencing heat exhaustion symptoms, taking immediate steps to cool down and rehydrate is essential. Apply cool, wet clothes or take a cool bath or shower to lower body temperature. Move to a cooler, shaded area and remove any excess clothing. Drink water or a sports drink with electrolytes. Seek medical attention if your symptoms do not improve, or you experience severe symptoms such as confusion, seizures, or loss of consciousness.
To prevent heat exhaustion, it is important to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures, take breaks in cool, shaded areas, wear light, loose-fitting clothing, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.
