Pulled Muscle
A pulled muscle, also known as a muscle strain, is a common injury when a muscle or its tendon is stretched or torn. This injury can be caused by overuse, improper use, or sudden movements that strain the muscle beyond its capacity.
The symptoms of a pulled muscle may include:
Pain, tenderness, or soreness in the affected muscle
Swelling or bruising
Stiffness or difficulty moving the affected area
Weakness or fatigue in the affected muscle
A popping or snapping sensation at the time of the injury
The severity of a pulled muscle can range from mild to severe. A mild strain may only cause minor discomfort and resolve within a few days. An intense pressure may require medical attention and weeks of rest and rehabilitation.
Treatment for a pulled muscle typically involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation to reduce swelling and pain. Over-the-counter pain medication may also be used to relieve discomfort. In severe cases, physical therapy or surgery may be necessary.
Preventing a pulled muscle involves:
Maintaining good physical fitness.
Using proper form and technique during exercise or physical activity.
Warming up before physical activity.
Avoiding overexertion or sudden movements.
