Things to Do

Woodley Park is rated as the #1 thing to do in Van Nuys. The Woodley Park is a widely popular spot for walkers, hikers, bicyclers alike! There are multiple lakes to either walk around or relax and read a book by. If you want to bring your friends and family, there are picnic areas with barbecue grills to cook up some items on the grill! If you have kids, Woodley Park has a playground and baseball field to expel some childhood energy. Two activities you can do here that you cant find anywhere else is cricket and archery, so come try something new! Downtown Van Nuys is The Japanese Garden which boasts 7 acres of land to explore. There are several features here such as ponds, fountains, and wildlife (both animals and plants)! It is open year round which allows visitors to see different plants, such as flowers, blossom and bloom at any time of year. As of now, you must make a reservation before heading here, so dont forget to do so or you wont be able to enjoy the scenery!

Places to Stay

Do you have IHG rewards for Holiday Inn? If so, you’re in luck because there is a Holiday Inn Express located in Van Nuys and IHG members receive a discount! Here you will receive a free hot breakfast, coffee, and buffet. There is a restaurant nearby, Buca Di Peppo, that the hotel will give you a $10 gift card to if you request it at the front desk. There is an outdoor pool you can lounge at during the day or night. If you’re looking for a budget friendly place to stay, Hyland Inn Van Nuys is about $50 cheaper than other nearby hotels or motels. The motel is located half a mile from the 405 interstate, so it is a great location to get on the highway quickly. The motel features, free Wi-Fi, on-site car rental desk, a microwave, cable tv, and air conditioning in every room. The motel is only 12 minutes from Universal Studios Hollywood, so this would be a great option to budget, but also be close to all the attractions you and your family would want to see.

Where to Eat

Want to try some Korean BBQ and other traditional dishes? AYCE GOGI has lunch and dinner that you can enjoy. There is a 90 minute dinner time limit and each adult at the table will be charged the dinner or lunch fee. There is over 30 different types of meat and seafood to choose from. The meat can then coupled with rice, soup, gyoza, noodles, and tempura. When you finish your meal, the restaurant offers amazing fried Oreos with Nutella which is hard to find anywhere other than a county fair! A very unique type of place to eat in Van Nuys that you would rarely find anywhere else is Moms Haus. This restaurant has Louisiana Style cuisine just like you could get in the Southern United States. The names of the items on the menu are just as fitting: Boudreaux’s Basket, Gumbo Fries, Bayou Basket, Voodoo Wings, Orleans Oxtails, Catfish, Jambalaya, etc. For those that only eat vegan or vegetarian, there is a guide on the menu that lets you know what type of meat is in each dish, if any, as well as if there is any dairy products. Of course it would not be an authentic Louisiana style restaurant without Bourbon in one of the items, so try the Bourbon Banana Pudding to get a taste of Bourbon Street. Lastly, what would a good southern meal be without sweet/unsweet iced tea? Make sure you get the full experience of Louisiana when you visit here!
