Respiratory illnesses include a large group of diseases which mainly affect the upper respiratory tract.

To date, 180-200 species of viruses and 40-50 species of bacteria are known to cause acute respiratory infections.

Respiratory diseases are dangerous because of their complications, which can occur at any time after the onset of the disease. Most often it is otitis (inflammation of the ear), maxillary sinusitis, tracheitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the trachea), and pneumonia.

Complex treatments may include:

- antipyretic drugs;

- anti-inflammatory drugs;

- sprays to sanitize the nasal cavity and ease breathing;

- cough medicine or expectorants;

- vitamins.
