Different forms of conjunctivitis

A physician can distinguish between the types of conjunctivitis: viral, bacterial, and allergic.

There are few differences:

- The nature of the secretions.

- Viral conjunctivitis rarely presents with pus, while pus is one of the main symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis.

- Viral conjunctivitis presents with less swelling compared to the bacterial form.

- Viral conjunctivitis causes swelling and soreness of the lymph nodes, while bacterial conjunctivitis does not affect the lymph nodes.

Allergic conjunctivitis is also different from viral conjunctivitis. With allergies, the discharge is more abundant and viscous, resembling mucus. The lymph nodes are not tense, but the swelling is much stronger. In addition, allergic conjunctivitis is accompanied with severe itching, which does not present with viral conjunctivitis.

Prevention of disease consists of careful personal hygiene: washing hands, individual use of towels, cosmetics, care of contact lenses, and proper handling of medical instruments. It is also important to strengthen your immunity.

To treat conjunctivitis in adults and children, you need to seek medical attention from a physician that will prescribe the necessary medications.
