Why it is important to protect the skin?

Most skin cancers are caused by excess exposure to skin-damaging ultraviolet (UV) light, which is an invisible form of radiation that come from the sun, and is also found in tanning beds and sunlamps.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the US. Everyone, especially children, should protect themselves against UV radiation.

The FDA recommends using sunscreens broad-spectrum sunscreens with a sun protection factor (SPF) at least 15, even in fall and winter.

Remember, sunscreen works best when combined with other protection such as sunglasses, hats, and protective clothing.

Sunscreen is not recommended for babies 6 months old or younger.
