Fever
Fever is a condition in which the body temperature rises above its normal range of 36.5-37.5°C (97.7-99.5°F). It is usually a sign that the body is fighting an infection. It is a common symptom of many underlying medical conditions.
Some common causes of fever include:
Infections, such as the flu, pneumonia, or urinary tract infections
Inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus
Certain medications or vaccines
Some types of cancer
In addition to an elevated body temperature, fever symptoms may include sweating, chills, headache, muscle aches, and fatigue.
The treatment for a fever depends on the underlying cause. Often, a fever will resolve independently as the body fights off the underlying infection or condition. Over-the-counter medications may help reduce fever and relieve other symptoms.
In some cases, medical attention may be necessary, especially if fever is accompanied by symptoms such as severe headache, difficulty breathing, or a rash. It is essential to consult with a healthcare provider if the fever persists or is accompanied by other concerning symptoms.
